Have to confess I've never heard of that other Spanish player, beyond Nadal, Moya and yonks ago Santana the Sánchez Vicario brother and sister I'm not really in tune.
I only ever semi-finals and finals, always found the early rounds boring, my late mother used to watch the whole lot like you, and pity help if I telephoned when there was an interesting match!!
